  Message Timestamp Formats Parentheses Bug
  If you choose "Force traditional..." or set the date to be displayed always
  in the conversation window, there are no longer parentheses around the
  date/time.

This is ugly and probably not a "correct" fix, but it seems to fix

  tiny bit faster, but more importantly, I think the code is easier to
  read
